The casino had been planned by the small Jamul tribe since the 1990s construction on the four-acre parcel began in 2014. The eight-story facility with 1,000 employees has more than 1,700 slot machines and 50 live table games. The $360 million Hollywood Casino, long opposed by community groups and county Supervisor Dianne Jacob, who dubbed it “Hollywood Horror Show,” opened in October 2016 on Highway 94. She said the tribe has hired a team of experts to help it make the transition and find a general manager to oversee operations. Erica Pinto, tribal chairwoman, said employees were informed Thursday of the change in management, which she characterized as a step toward self-sufficiency, “which was our goal all along.”
